Arangetram, “ascending the stage”, is a dancer’s solo debut performance marking the culmination of initial training and beginning of their journey as an artist. It showcases the utmost discipline of the mind, body and soul of the dancer.

The centerpiece and most intricate item of the repertoire (margam), demonstrates the dancer’s endurance and ability to skillfully juxtapose all facets of the dance form - Nritta, Nritya, and Natya.
This varnam takes excerpts from the Hanuman Chalisa - a timeless devotional hymn about Lord Hanuman, an embodiment of strength, wisdom, and knowledge. He symbolizes the life-force in all of us and is venerated for his single-minded devotion to Lord Rama.

Lord Krishna is universally adored for his enchanting qualities and selfless compassion. The Supreme Lord Vishnu had taken ten incarnations to restore Dharma. This Daasar Kriti depicts the interaction between Vamana and Mahabali exemplifying the power of humility to conquer ego, as a path to liberation.

In this Padam, Parvati is the Virahotkanthita Nayika (one distressed by separation). She implores the ornaments (aabharanas) of Lord Shiva to convey her state of sadness as she is separated from him.

The culminating piece of the margam is a pure Nritta item that celebrates the joy of dance. It consists of fast-paced and complex footwork, rich melody, and striking poses, with lyrics dedicated to Lord Murugan.
The dancer ends the recital with a Mangalam, an auspicious conclusion offering heartfelt gratitude to God, the guru, the orchestra, and the audience.
